The problem was to educate. The message – electricity is dangerous. The project had several audiences but was primarily designed for school children. In existence was a 3-D display unit that visually illustrated electrical dangers through startling sound effects, attention-getting sparks that really flew and little cartoon characters that actually moved. Collateral material had to be created for this unit. The unit itself had been previously given a name – Hazard Hamlet.

We created a character and called him Harry – Harry Hazard. The scenario; Harry was a school bus driver and he gave kids tours of his Hamlet. In the process Harry managed to get into all sorts of electrical mischief. The premise; the best way to reach school children was to educate through example.

14 different tours through Harry’s Hamlet were created and illustrated. These illustrations were applied to all of the collateral material – general tour guides, quick reference guides for presenters, colouring books, activity books, activity sheets, tickets, comic books, posters and audio tapes and, in the end, all of the material was packaged into a durable container.

This work has won numerous major awards throughout North America. Many utilities in North America want to incorporate the elements that were created as part of their educational material. Most important, the material helped to save lives.
